Standard Ordination Exams Training Videos

  • Before being able to be declared Certified Ready to Be Examined for a Call, all Candidates will have to successfully pass the five standard ordination exams required by the denomination. The first video, in this exam training series, provides an introduction to the Standard Ordination Exams by Rev. Dr. Timothy Cargal, Manager, Preparation for Ministry & Examinations, with the Presbyterian Church (USA).
  • The Bible Content Exam (BCE) is often the first exam to be taken by Inquirers or Candidates. In Pt. 2 of this video series, Rev. Dr. Timothy Cargal, offers and Introduction specifically to the Bible Content Exam. He describes the exams unique characteristics and offers ideas for preparation to take the BCE.
  • In Pt. 3, Rev. Dr. Timothy Cargal explains how the Bible Content Exam achieves the purpose of assessing the inquirer or candidate's knowledge of the form and content of the Bible and the distribution of the 100 questions on the exam.
  • In Pt. 4, Rev. Dr. Timothy Cargal offers a plan for preparing for the BCE including resources upon which to focus in your preparation.
  • The Senior Exams are generally taken after an Inquirer or Candidate has entered their final year in seminary. IN Pt. 5, Rev. Dr. Timothy Cargal provides an introduction to the four Senior Exams...Worship and Sacraments, Reformed Theology, Polity, and Biblical Exegesis.
  • Often the biggest obstacle for Candidates successfully passing their exam is that the readers deem they have not fully answered the question. In Pt. 6, Rev. Tim Cargal offers tips on overcoming this obstacle by "Exegeting" and exam question.
  • The final video in the Ordination Exam series, Pt. 7, focuses on some general tips from Rev. Dr. Tim Cargal for being successful in taking your Senior Ordination Exams.
