Get Ready for General Assembly
The 226th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) will be convening June 25 through June 4 with committees meeting online June 25-27 and plenary will convene in Salt Lake City Utah, June 29 through July 4.
At the September meeting of Central Florida Presbytery two Teaching Elders, The Rev. Christina Greenawalt and The Rev. Mario Bolivar and two Ruling Elders, Olga Malave-Mercado and Luis (Tony) Boada Davila, were elected to be GA Commissioners. A Young Adult Advisory Delegate was elected in December and since then has needed to decline the election. We will commission them at the June 6 Presbytery Meeting for this calling. Interim Co-Executive Presbyters, Hoover and Olivia Haney, will also be in Salt Lake with them for the meeting.
Here are some exciting items which will be happening in Salt Lake!
New Co-Moderators will be elected. The Rev. CeCe Armstong and Rev. Tony Larson, ministers from Charleston Atlantic Presbytery and New Harmony Presbytery, respectively, are standing together; and The Rev. Dr. Marian McClure Taylor and The Rev. Danny Morales, from the Presbytery of Mid Kentucky and Tropical Florida Presbytery, respectively are also standing together as Co-Moderators.
The body will also elect a new person to the Office of Stated Clerk. The Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson stepped down in 2023 as the Stated Clerk and the Rev. Bronwen Boswell was named Acting Stated Clerk until the General Assembly could elect a new Stated Clerk. The Rev, Jihyun Oh is the selection of the Stated Clerk Nomination Committee to be the next Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of the PC(USA).
At the September meeting of Central Florida Presbytery 2 Teaching Elder Commissioners, The Rev. Christina Greenawalt and The Rev. Mario Bolivar and 2 Ruling Elder Commissioners, Olga Malave-Mercado and Luis (Tony) Boada Davilia, were elected. A Young Adult Advisory Delegate was elected in December and since then has needed to decline the election. As Commissioners, they will serve as on the committees and be voting members of the General Assembly. We will commission them at the June 6 Presbytery Meeting for this calling. Hoover and Olivia will also be in Salt Lake with them for the meeting.
These men and women need our prayers as they accept this calling. There will be much business before them. They will study, listen, pray and discern the issues before the body, voting their conscious, just as we ask our commissioners to our Presbytery meetings. There are many different amendments coming to the Assembly, and many of us are beginning to read them. If any person in the presbytery has a question for the commissioners, it may be emailed to Hoover or Olivia and then it will be passed on to the commissioners. Hoover’s email is [email protected] and Olivia’s email is [email protected].
Again, please pray for Mario, Christina, Tony, Olga, Hoover and Olivia for traveling mercies and God’s guidance as the work of Christ’s Church in the world will move forward during this meeting.
