A Prayer for the Week
Almighty God, Creator of all, we offer prayers of thanksgiving and hope in this season of Easter which depicts your Son’s sacrifice for our salvation. As we move through this time toward Pentecost, may we take a breath, a Holy Breath, to calm, to prepare, to energize us for the next event.
As we witness your Spirit moving amongst us, we also are brought into the world by the tragedies which remind us of the pain and suffering of everyday living. We pray for the people of war-torn Ukraine and the Middle East, for Haiti, for flooding in Kenya, and for storms which afflict our country. We especially pray for the men and women who were directly impacted by the cargo ship crash and the collapsing of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. May your arms enfold them, the men and women called to rescue them and the medical teams who care for them. Hold their families in your loving arms as well and they wait and as they grieve.
Our prayers rise for the Baltimore citizens, the Transportation Services and the Federal Government as they respond to this disaster. Give them wisdom as they move forward dealing with traffic, government agencies, contractors and others in rebuilding. May the divisions which have plagued us nationally, be set aside, to work toward the good of the citizens of Baltimore and Maryland.
O Lord, hear our prayers in Jesus’ name. Amen.
