The Central Florida Presbytery Youth will be Gleaning with the Society of St Andrew (SoSA) on Saturday, November 11, 2023. We will meet at Long and Scott Farm in Mt. Dora, our actual field location, will be sent by our SoSA Volunteer Coordinator closer to the day of. We will pick sweet corn, the "leftovers" from the harvest, that will be donated to a local hunger-based charity. We will meet at the farm at 8:30 am and work until about 11:30 am picking produce. If your church would like to take some corn back for your food pantry let me know and we can coordinate with SoSA to see if there will be enough produce. In addition, we are looking for anyone who is coming that may have a 4WD truck, we need to get from parking to the field and the more vehicles we can ride into the field with the better.
The registration for the event is a two-step process. You must first register as a volunteer and then select a shift. There is a short video that outlines the process on the registration page. We will be using a password for registration to ensure registrations are from the Central Florida Presbytery. You can follow the below instructions for how to register:

Please pack a lunch and join us for lunch and fellowship after. This is a great way to spend some time outdoors and help our community.
Gleaning is mentioned several times in the Bible and is an act of love that endures today. According to the Society of St. Andrew's website Gleaners are the most active "hands and feet" of their misson. The Society's website states, "The mission to end hunger is critical. More than 40 million people in the United States today are hungry or food insecure. And yet, in this country, we will throw away over 133 billion pounds of good food this year. As a people of faith, it is time for us to take action—to say that this situation is unacceptable and we will do something about it." This mission fits in line with the PC(USA) Matthew 25 Initiative.
