Reflections from General Assembly
By Juan Carlos Montanez-Gonzalez
I was a Ruling Elder Commissioner to the 225th GA. It was my first time as a commissioner to a General Assembly. It was a marvelous experience in all its components. Having the privilege of participating in discerning God's will for the church was a strengthening and invigorating opportunity. I learned so much more about our church. Participating with siblings from all around the country, and the world, made me love my church even more. So many wonderful ruling and teaching elders invested in working their best understanding of God's will for the world, amazed and motivated me to do as well. Observing our Youth Delegate's work in committees and in the plenaries was a reassuring blessing that God has even greater endeavors for the church.
The event organization was superb! Every detail needed so it developed flawlessly was taken into account. Travel, lodging, meals, snacks, communication, time, technology, information, etc., went through perfectly for the glory of Jesus Christ. I was assigned as part of the Moving Forward Committee. The experience at the GA office was incredible. Working with my fellow commissioners was so great, that I wondered what was the complaint from previous GA's about. Well I think that God has made us grow and blessed us making our job a lot easier. Having the plenaries of the GA though the Zoom platform had little challenges, but in general, it worked for the benefit of our institution.
I'm working to transfer to my local church how important it is that we continue participating vigorously with our per capita. Also to be aware of any new plan that the Church comes out with to support our denomination's mission. I'm blessed being part of this GA and I'm looking forward to the 226th GA in Utah.
Respectfully with all my love for Jesus,
