History of CFP Micro Grant Ministry:
In 2018 Rev Linda Jaberg brought this idea to the newly formed Church Transformation Team: to offer grants up to $5,000 not loans to congregations for the purpose of supporting them to think out of the box with new ideas for transforming their ministries within and/or mission outward to their communities. The need for easy application and approval process were intended to encourage local leadership’s vision and strengthen their relationships with Presbytery. In 2018, the task to create the application document was given to Rev Calvin Gittner, who did excellent work capturing the team’s vision for this program. Calvin also brilliantly coined the name “Micro Grant”.
With Council’s approval and support, $20,000 was set aside in 2019 for this purpose. The Transformation Team added the names of Barbara Sayles, Dan Williams, and Cheryl Carson to act as consultants in the approval process. Using email, we can process a request for funds usually within 6 weeks.
In the first year we granted funds to 6 congregations. This year another $20,000 was set aside with Council’s approval. This year, 11 congregations received grants ranging from $500 to $5,000.
In the middle of the year, due to Covid19, we created a special category for improving online technology capabilities. Consulting with those who already were live streaming, we agreed to offer grants up to $1500 for this specific purpose. Out of the 2020 budget of $20,000 all but $3 have been allocated as of October. Council approved an additional $10,000 in funds to meet any additional technology grants that may come forth this year--and grants have already come in.
The application for Micro Grants is on the Church Transformation page with instructions to email Linda Jaberg your completed application form.
