News from the Executive Presbyter/Stated Clerk
PRESBYTERY STAFF CHANGES
If you were at the March meeting of Presbytery, you know that our Finance Manager, Karen Daniel, is planning to retire at the end of May this year. Karen began to work for the Presbytery in 1985, after working for the Office of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States in Atlanta. When our antecedent denominations consolidated their offices in Louisville, Karen chose to move south to Orlando instead of continuing in that work. None of us have regretted that choice!
We are also pleased to announce that Nina Wilson Jones has been hired to become our new Finance Manager. Nina will begin her work on Monday, April 16, and will work with Karen until the end of May to learn the ins and outs of the position. Nina’s parents are members of the Washington Shores Presbyterian Church. Her move to the Presbytery position and to Orlando also represents a move from Houston, Texas, where Nina had been working for The Open Door Mission as their Director of Development and Communications.
Nina comes to the Presbytery staff four months after Christina Greenawalt became our new administrative assistant. With these changes, I thought it would be helpful to review the work schedules and areas of responsibility for members of the Presbytery staff. Please refer to the chart at the end of this article for the committees each staff person resources.
Karen Daniel is in the office Monday through Friday. Karen manages the presbytery’s finances, and is the Office Manager. She provides staff support to the Budget and Endowment Committees. Her telephone extension is 205. Nina Wilson Jones will be in the office 24 hours per week. The exact breakdown of these hours will be announced later.
Christina Greenawalt is ordinarily in the office on Tuesday through Friday. She provides administrative support to the Presbytery staff and serves as the assistant Office Manager (and, will become Office Manager at the end of May). Christina assists Dan Williams in providing staff support to Council and Committee on Ministry, and serves as the recording clerk at those meeting, plus Presbytery meetings. Christina is a candidate under care of the Presbytery, and is available for pulpit supply when needed. Her telephone extension is 201.
Cheryl Carson, our Leadership Development and Communications Coordinator, is ordinarily in the office Monday through Thursday. When Cheryl returned to four days per week last September, she took over responsibility for communications tasks in the office, including oversight of the web site, social media, and email newsletters. She provides staff support to the Leadership Development Committee. Besides maintaining the Resource Center, Cheryl also serves as coordinator of the Presbytery Youth Council. Cheryl has recently finished her Doctor of Educational Ministry degree and will graduate from Columbia Theological Seminary on May 19. Her telephone extension is 204.
Barbara Sayles is Presbytery’s Hunger Action Advocate, and works out of her Society of St. Andrew Office in the Broadway United Methodist Church, downtown Orlando. Barbara provides staff support to the Mission Development Committee and its sub-committees. She also assists Cheryl with youth activities.
Dan Williams works out of the office Monday through Friday. His office extension is 208, but the best way to reach him and to leave messages is via his cell phone, 321-247-1119.
As part of the ongoing self-study that the Presbytery has been involved in, through Presbytery Council, some of these responsibilities and assignments may change. The Office and Personnel Committee is reviewing all position descriptions and compensation levels in light of the ongoing study process.
