Greetings from the Moderator JULY 2018
VISIONS OF THE KINGDOM AROUND THE WORLD
One of the special privileges I enjoy as Moderator is being invited to worship with congregations within our Presbytery. I had that opportunity on June 24, when I was invited to preach at FPC-Umatilla. As I reflected of our call, by Christ, to “Go and make disciples…” I thought about how strong we are when we are using our God given gifts together to accomplish that divine task.
I chose to speak on the text from 1 Corinthians 12: 12-27. Paul reminds his listeners that we are all part of one body – the Body of Christ:
"Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many... Now you are the Body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it."
As we work together to define our Vision and Mission and the means to accomplish them, here in Central Florida, it is helpful to remember that we do not have to go it alone.
Our Book of Order reminds us that:
Christ gave us this great commission, but He also promised to be with us to the very end of the age. Paul explained that we are all given the one Spirit. As we seek God’s will for our individual ministries, we can be assured that God is the powerful force behind us. With the unity of all parts of the Body working together and that divine power we can touch lives.
The result was foretold in Acts:
"So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers"
I pray that as we work together, as one Body of Christ, in our local congregations and in the Central Florida Presbytery, our work will glorify our God and achieve the mission to which we have been called.
