First Presbyterian, New Smyrna Celebrates 150th Anniversary

Picture
In 2025, First Presbyterian Church will celebrate a remarkable milestone—its 150th anniversary. Since its founding in 1875, First Presbyterian has been a steadfast pillar of faith, community, and service. To honor this historic occasion, the church is planning a series of special events throughout the year, inviting members, former congregants, and the broader community to join in commemorating its rich history and envisioning an exciting future.

The celebration kicked off with participation in the NSB Christmas parade on December 7 with a float and members in period costumes passing out gift bags. 2025 will feature multiple events with special worship services with historical reflections, guest speakers, and inspiring music from the church choir. Additional events, including community service projects, gatherings, and fellowship meals, will continue through the year to showcase the values that have defined First Presbyterian for generations. Each event is designed to recognize the church's enduring commitment to faith, unity, and compassion.

"Reaching 150 years is a testament to the resilience and faithfulness of God for the people who have come through these doors and to God's ongoing work through this church," said Anne Perdue, Clerk of the Session.  "We look forward to celebrating our past and renewing our commitment to being a light and resource for the community for many more years to come."

Throughout its history, First Presbyterian has played a vital role in the New Smyrna/Edgewater area, serving through various ministries, outreach programs, and partnerships with local organizations. The anniversary year will provide opportunities to reflect on the church’s legacy while inspiring a new generation to carry forward its mission of love, service, and inclusion.

As part of the 150th-anniversary events, a “150 Acts of Kindness” initiative is being rolled out by the Missions Team. Presbyterian Women “Hearts of Hope” are making monthly financial gifts to further the work of local and church ministries. A history book, documenting its journey through time with stories, photographs, and records of key moments that have shaped its legacy is also being compiled.

For more information on First Presbyterian Church's 150th-anniversary events or to participate in the celebrations, please contact Anne Perdue.
