MINISTRY TO CHILDREN AND FAMILIES DURING PANDEMIC
by Sheryl Chernault, Children's Ministry Director, Grace Covenant Presbyterian, Orlando
Here I am two weeks into my new job as Children’s Ministry Director at Grace Covenant Presbyterian and along comes COVID 19. How am I going to meet children that are just names on a roll sheet? How am I going to share with a congregation who I am, and what I’m about? After thinking and desperately praying, I received the answer...YouTube, the mail system and phone calls were going to be my friend.
I have been creating videos for our children and families and posting them on YouTube. With each 90 second video I wanted to show a little of who I am and a biblical principle that kids and adults could put into action. The series is called “Being the Church”. (you can take a look at our GRACE KIDS NOW channel.) Currently there are 6 videos up and more to come.
The children’s ministry at the church currently is small, putting a box in the mail for each family with crafts and fun things to do will also hopefully connect them to “the Church” and to each other! WIN -WIN!
Last, but not least, I'm reaching out with a phone call to each family listening to their stories and their struggles. This might not have been the way I envisioned my start of ministry at Grace Covenant but it has been fun and a very new way of doing church. I pray for each of you as you discover a new way of doing church, that works for your congregation. Blessings!
