Executive Presbyter Transition and Search Committee
February 23, 2023
By Patricia Zinn, Committee Secretary
The Executive Presbyter Transition and Search Committee was appointed by the Moderator at the Fall Stated Meeting of Central Florida Presbytery on Sept. 13, 2022 and began meeting that same day. The team members are: Mario Bolivar (TE) - Co-Chair; Danny Demoraes (TE); Cris Heceta (RE); David Larry Kim (TE); Bill Kramp (TE) - Co-Chair; Ralphetta Akers McClary (RE); Loy Mershimer (TE); Nancy Graham Ogne (TE); Josue Raymond (RE); Scott Worth (TE); and Patricia Zinn (RE) - Secretary
The team meets weekly, usually by Zoom; in-person meetings, when required, are held at a central location.
We first reviewed the Presbytery Vision statement, and identified a framework for our team’s work, shown below in bold. It is tied to Mark 12:30, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength”. It is also tied to the reminder that, “The church doesn’t exist for the presbytery, but the presbytery for the church.” (David Larry Kim)
Central Florida Presbytery Supporting Local Congregations/Enclaves by:
•Igniting - the people to EXPERIENCE being Spirit-led
•Empowering - the people to SHOW God’s grace
•Spiritually Growing - the people to SHARE Christ’s love
Next, we defined our strategy. The first step was to address the strategic transition questions posed by Council, i.e., analyze CFP membership changes and develop recommendations for presbytery structure, staffing, and office space. We divided the Council’s transition questions among three sub-teams, reviewed the work products as a group, and presented our findings and recommendations to Council at their February, 2023 meeting.
Council will consider our recommendation at their next meeting. In the meantime, Council has directed us to start our next step: preparation of the Ministry Information Form (MIF) based on the answers to the strategic questions. Once Council approves the MIF, it will be posted to the CLC system and we can begin the official search for our new Executive Presbyter.
Respectfully submitted,
Patricia Zinn
Team Secretary
