unless the donor directs the gift to a particular mission area.
(Please see endowment details below.)

Florida Presbytery can be mailed to the office at 924 N. Magnolia

Permanent Endowment Funds |
|
general funds |
|
Gifts to the Permanent Endowment
Fund which have no specific designation shall be placed in the
General Fund. Income will be distributed by the Board of Directors
based upon the needs of the presbytery from time to time.
New Church Development
- Gifts to this fund will be used to start new Presbyterian churches
in the growing areas of the presbytery in order to bring the Good
News of Jesus Christ to all people and to witness to the new life
that is available in Him. In the last quarter of the 20th century,
Central Florida Presbytery and its predecessors started 21 new
churches in response to the rapid population growth in the 10-county
area of Central Florida Presbytery. Funds are required to purchase
NCD sites well in advance and to give financial support to new
congregations during their early years. (Sub-funds may be
established for a particular NCD project.)
Church Builders Fund
- This fund, established in 1992, provides an opportunity to honor
church workers who have made a significant contribution to the work
of the Church and the presentation of the Gospel. Each person so
honored will be added to the Central Florida Roll of "Friends of the
Carpenter." Congregations which meet a milestone anniversary are
encouraged to consider a gift to this fund as part of their
celebration. Income from this fund will enhance the New Church
Development program of the presbytery.
Christian Education Fund
- This fund supports programs to respond to Christ's love by
engaging in ministries of compassion and justice, by meeting human
needs, by working for peace, and by addressing homelessness,
violence, and environmental issues.
Evangelism and
Revitalization Fund - This fund
supports programs to encourage, educate, equip and motivate the
churches of Central Florida Presbytery to evangelize by reaching out
to all people to tell the story of the Gospel. It provides and
publicizes opportunities to accept Jesus Christ, inviting people to
make or renew their commitment to Jesus Christ by becoming disciples
and practicing discipline. It assists pastors and churches in
developing programs for growth through outreach specialists,
retreats, training programs, and conferences. It promotes evangelism
through the use of media and programs to increase awareness of the
variety of racial ethnic groups in the presbytery.
Pastoral Care Fund
- Clergy and other church professionals, called by God to particular
ministries, are human beings with particular joys, concerns, and
needs. Their families also have particular needs for care and
support. This fund assists in meeting those needs by providing
expanded opportunities for church professionals and their families
to know one another and to develop deeper relationships with one
another, as well as by providing financial support in crisis
situations, counseling, or emergency needs.
Preparation for Ministry
Fund - The preparation for ministry
process of the Presbyterian Church is designed to help all church
members discern and fulfill their particular Christian vocations and
to provide full personal and professional preparation for the office
of Minister of Word and Sacrament. This fund is used for career
development and planning, continuing education, and scholarships for
seminary education.
Professional Development
Fund - This fund helps Christian
leaders, lay and ordained, to discern and nurture their own gifts
and to develop their professional skills through on-going
educational opportunities.
Resource Center Fund
- This fund supports the Presbytery Resource Center in its mission
to make available to the presbytery's pastors, churches, and their
members quality resources that are biblically based and
theologically sound. Such resources include books, videos,
curricula, and equipment.
Theology and Worship Fund
- This fund support the work of the presbytery in providing
opportunities for clergy and laity to engage in theological study
and to experience a variety of rich worship opportunities in the
meetings of presbytery.

Darla B. Salmon Memorial
Fund - This fund was established in 1996 by the Rev. Dr.
Dennis M. Salmon with a gift to the Permanent Fund of the
Presbyterian Foundation in memory of his beloved wife. Income of the
fund is designated to Central Florida Presbytery to be used at the
discretion of the presbytery.
Hands-on Mission Endowment
Fund - In June 1993, the Presbytery of Central Florida
received a bequest by Mrs. Idella Lemosy designated for Global
Missions. A second fund for "global mission" was started in December
1995 with a gift from the Riverside Presbyterian Church of Cocoa
Beach. In December 1996, this account was increased with a bequest
from Irene King, who specified that the money should be applied to
both home and foreign mission work. In May 1998, the Global Mission
Committee of the presbytery put these funds with the Presbyterian
Endowment Fund as a "restricted fund to be seed for future gifts."
The income of the fund is annually distributed through the committee
responsible for global mission for "mission enriching travel
experiences."
Rosalie J. Potter Fund for
New Church Development - This fund was established in 2004
on the death of Dr. Rosalie J. Potter. In planning her estate, Dr.
Potter purchased a life insurance policy, with Central Florida
Presbytery as the owner and beneficiary, to provide perpetual
support for new church development within the bounds of the
presbytery. Dr. Potter served ably as Associate Executive Presbyter
for Central Florida Presbytery, working in the area of New Church
Development from 1988 to 2002. During her tenure, five New Church
Developments were chartered. They are Community Church in
Celebration, El Buen Vecino, North Lake, Woodbury, and Oviedo. She
left the presbytery to accept her call as Associate Director,
Evangelism and Church Development, for the Presbyterian Church
U.S.A., where she served for five years until failing health
prompted her retirement. During her tenure there, the Office of
Immigrant Groups Ministries in the U.S.A. and the Living the Vision
series of booklets on evangelism and church growth were developed.
The series helps meet the challenge of reaching the unchurched and
ministering to many different racial and ethnic groups. Dr. Potter
served nine churches in the Rochester, NY area before her years in
Central Florida Presbytery. The presbytery continues to benefit from
her wisdom regarding church development and from her careful
planning for ongoing support of that work.
Elva Johnson Jackson Selig
Fund for Hands-on Mission - This fund was established with a
bequest from the estate of Elva Selig. Mrs. Selig was the mother of
the Rev. John Jackson, nationally recognized leader in the
Presbyterian Church in the causes of justice and the environment.
John, co-founder of Presbyterians for Restoring Creation, learned
from his mother to care passionately for the needs of God's world.
Elva Selig was a native of Rock Hill, SC, and a graduate of South
Carolina State Teachers College, now Winthrop University. During her
lifetime she contributed generously to several charities and
non-profit organizations. Among them were Habitat for Humanity, the
James F. Byrnes Scholarship Fund, Florida Interfaith Networking in
Disaster, and Presbyterians for Restoring Creation. She initiated
the Florida Conference, United Church of Christ Grant Program for
Creating Multi-Faith Community. The Elva Selig Fund is a part of the
Hand-on Mission Endowment Fund of Central Florida Presbytery. Her
bequest supports the mission work of congregations which partner
with other congregations to travel to other countries for short-term
mission projects, introducing youth and adults to brothers and
sisters in Christ around the globe.
Jim & Betty Wells Fund for
New Church Development - Jim and Betty Wells moved to the
Ormond Beach area in 1968 and bought a piece of land on which they
built a lovely home. Thirty years later, they gave to Central
Florida Presbytery an apartment building to provide for new church
development in the presbytery far into the future. "We chose to
support New Church Development work because we've seen such great
population growth in this part of Florida over the years," Betty
commented at the time of the gift, "and because our church has
assisted new congregations like El Buen Vecino Presbyterian Church
in Kissimmee." The Wells are members of Ormond Beach Presbyterian
Church where Jim has deep commitment to the Property Committee, and
Betty has served as Clerk of Session. Jim, a native of Ohio and a
graduate of Youngstown University and Westminster College, New
Wilmington, PA, is Professor of Business Administration at Daytona
Beach Community College. Betty, a retired High School teacher, is a
native of Georgia and a graduate of the University of Georgia. The
Wells' gift took the form of a "Deferred Gift Annuity," a charitable
life income plan offered by the Presbyterian Foundation. Their gift
of property provided a lifetime income for them in addition to
certain tax and capital gains benefits. Following the lifetime of
the annuitants, the remainder of the gift will be used to fund New
Church Development work in the rapidly growing area of Central
Presbytery.
Howard D. & Mabel M. Gress
Scholarship Fund - This fund was established in 1980 by the
Rev. Howard D. Gress, Executive Secretary of St. Johns Presbytery,
and his wife, Mabel. The fund was established to "provide financial
assistance to deserving candidates for the ministry under the care
of the Presbytery of St. Johns, who without such financial
assistance might not otherwise be able to complete their
professional preparation for the Gospel Ministry." Contributions are
added to the fund from the offerings received at each service of
ordination or installation in the presbytery and by individuals who
want to provide for the future leadership of the Presbyterian Church
(USA).
Riverside Fund -
This fund was established in 2005 by the trustees of the former
Riverside Presbyterian Church. The Riverside Church merged with the
Port Orange Presbyterian Church in November, 2003. The church
property was sold, and Central Florida Presbytery received 20% of
the proceeds from the sale. The trustees requested that a permanent
fund be established. The earnings are to be distributed to help
existing churches and new church development.
Calvin T. Young Fund
- This fund was set up in 1953 following the death of Dr. Calvin T.
Young of Plant City, Florida. Dr. Young left a major portion of this
estate to Presbyterian institutions and the boards and "home mission
work" in St. John's presbytery. |
