Bringing Healing and Restoration
By Jean Meredith, CRE
Where do we find hope and strength in these times of division, violence, and economic and social challenges? Howard Thurman gave us these wise words to hold on to in times like this: “In the stillness of the quiet, if we listen, we can hear the whisper of the heart giving strength to weakness, courage to fear, hope to despair.”
On July 19 CFP hosted a Service of Healing and Restoration at Rockledge Presbyterian Church where we took time for stillness, reflection, prayer, and worship. This contemplative service allowed participants to sense God’s presence and peace as we sang hymns, heard scripture, spent time in silence, and shared the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. Rev. Martin Concepcion shared a powerful message from Romans 8:35-39 reminding us that nothing can separate us from the love of God and it is in that promise that we are called to continue to nurture hope in others.
Matthew 11:28-30 reminds us that Jesus invites us to lay our burdens at his feet. There is such a heaviness in our world right now and what a blessing it is to take the time to truly talk to God and share with him what is on our hearts. During the service there was an opportunity to spend time in prayer at several prayer stations that included breath prayers, Psalms of lament, and praying with others and being anointed.
We give thanks to Rockledge Presbyterian Church for opening their doors and providing a beautiful setting and inspirational music for this service. Many thanks to the participants in the service: Davita Bonner, Dr. Cheryl Carson, Rev. Martin Concepcion, Rev. Sandy Lacey, Rob McBride and Jean Meredith.
The service was recorded and our hope is that you will share this service with your congregation and others. We also invite you to consider offering a Service of Healing and Restoration for your community.
