DONATED BLESSING BOX BLESSES PEOPLE OF ST. CLOUD
During the COLE event St. Cloud's Pastor Hugh Lackey attended a session led by Wekiva Presbyterian Elder Scott Wesley. During the session Scott mention that Wekiva’s scouts had built a box to offer food and other items to needy people in their area. Due to a conflict with Nursey School the box was retired, and Scott offered it to anyone willing to use it. The next day Hugh asked on behalf of Saint Pres. If the offer was still available. It was and the box was moved to SCPC.
After some renovation and a new paint job, removing the scout’s blue to a color match in the church, the box was placed beside the side of the church near the sidewalk where individuals could easily see the contents and take what they needed.
At the bottom of the door is a sign that reads:
“Take what you need. Give what you can.”
The Missions committee has assumed the responsibility for refilling the box and every Sunday there is a list of the most needed items. While the box always includes a variety of food items and snacks it also offers toiletries and of course the Word.
Word spread fast through the town and people walking by or coming on their bikes stop and take items that will give them needed energy for another day. The last statement on the sign has been honored several times as people from the community come and restock the box with items that have purchased.
It has become a real life community effort to help our neighbors in need.
Wekiva gave St. Cloud the vehicle and they have also given financial gifts to help purchase items needed to keep the box full. It has been and we hope will continue to be a blessing.
The next project will be Book Box for all ages.
